The Aceves Health Equity Research Lab is dedicated to community-based and health services research aimed at addressing health disparities among Latinos. Through collaborative partnerships with local organizations, community health centers, and leaders, our interdisciplinary team delves into the root causes of inequities, including social risk factors and structural barriers. Our research endeavors to not only uncover these disparities but also to develop culturally-informed multi-level interventions that empower Latino communities, address social barriers to health care, and mitigate structural causes. By translating research findings into actionable policies and practices, we advocate for systemic change that fosters health equity and ensures that all Latinos have equitable opportunities to thrive in good health.

The Lopez-Galvez Environmental Justice & Exposure Lab is dedicated to evaluating environmental exposures to carcinogens like pesticides and tobacco-related pollutants among underserved populations, including low-wage immigrant workers, farmworkers, children, and those residing near the U.S.-Mexico border region. Using innovative and non-invasive exposure assessment tools, we conduct field studies to monitor carcinogens in both occupational and community-based settings, aiming to better comprehend their impact on human health. Our lab is committed to addressing environmental justice issues and health disparities in minority populations. We also prioritize training students and community members in citizen science to empower them with knowledge and tools for advocacy and action on environmental justice issues.
